Composer / Gharana:

This appears in the light classical / drut khayal repertoire.
Composer not historically documented.
Commonly sung within the Gwalior-influenced stream and popularized by modern artists.

Bandish Insights:

  • A drut khayal with a light, lyrical feel—excellent for taans and rhythmic play.
  • The mukhda emphasizes sur–laya praise, making it ideal for showcasing technical skill.
  • Antara offers space for faster sargam and bol-taans.
  • Works well after a vilambit Yaman bandish like “Mera Manva Bandh Lino” or “Eri Aali Piya Bina”.

Anecdote:

This bandish became known widely through Kumar Gandharva’s distinctive interpretation.
He often used it to transition from introspective vilambit to spirited drut in concerts.

Veena Sahasrabuddhe’s version is more classical, structured, and steady compared to Kumarji’s free-spirited phrasing.
